PAST CONTINUOUS

Today, we have studied a new grammar tense: PAST CONTINUOUS.

As you can see in the video, we use PAST CONTINUOUS to talk about a situation that happened in a certain period of time in the past.

The structure is pretty similar to present continuous but we put the verb TO BE in past.

Aff: subject + verb to be in past (was/were) + verb + -ing + complements.
I was going to my house.
We were going to our house.

Neg: Subject + verb to be in past + not + verb + -ing + complements.
I was not (wasn´t) going to my house.
We were not (weren´t) going to our house.

Questions: Verb to be in past + subject + verb + - ing + complements + ?
Was I going to my house?
Were we going to our house?

We can also find WHEN / WHILE in sentences that combine past simple and continuous.
Remember this rule:

WHEN always ( or almost always ) before PAST SIMPLE.
I was doing my homework when the telephone rang.
WHILE always ( or almost always) before PAST CONTINUOUS.
The  telephone rang while I was doing my homework.
